The Fort York Invigorated Capital Campaign:
We are helping Fort York revitalize and reconnect to Toronto. We have raised $3.5 million so far. Most of this has supported the Fort York Visitor Centre, which opened in 2014. The W. Garfield Weston Foundation donated $1 million supporting the rehabilitation of Garrison Common, part of Fort York National Historic Site. Our fundraising also supports the Fort York Acquisitions Fund, helping the fort acquire and conserve historic artifacts related to Fort York’s unique story.
The $3 million to be raised will enable us to finish the Visitor Centre. It will allow components that are already designed but currently on hold for lack of funding to be restored:
- Café and seating inside the Visitor Centre, with outdoor seating in summer;
- Completion of the forecourt-entrance landscape plan for the Visitor Centre. The Liquid Landscape plan includes a simple landscape of grass and sedge recalling the shore of Lake Ontario that occupied this site until 1850, with an elevated Events Dock to allow visitors to enjoy this perspective and support programming;
- A fully-built, weathered-steel wall, extending the present wall (front of the Visitor Centre) to the east. The extension will give visitors a sense of the height and mass of the original bluff on Lake Ontario on which Fort York was built in 1793.
Please donate today to the Fort York Invigorated Campaign.
