On 7 July 2014 City Council appointed Ceta Ramkhalawansingh to represent Ward 20 on council to complete the balance of Adam Vaughan’s term after his election to the Parliament of Canada. A director of The Friends of Fort York since 2012, she has taken a leave of absence from our board to serve at City Hall. Long an activist in her Grange neighbourhood and a former manager of the City’s Corporate Diversity and Human Rights program, Ceta has deep roots in education having worked during the 1970s on the development of anti-racism and multicultural policies and programs at the Toronto school board. From 1983-88 she was an Order-in-Council appointee to the Ontario Advisory Council on Women’s Issues. Needless to say her Fort York colleagues wish her well in this new role.
